Our Most Anticipated Games For 2021
2020 will probably always be remembered as a legendary bad year, but despite it all, we have been enjoying quite a few of new video game releases such as Streets of Rage 4, Cyberpunk 2077 and Phasmophobia (Early Access). So what are we looking forward to in the coming year, then? We’re entering a new console generation, so there is perhaps more hype than usual this year…?
Balan Wonderworld
A happy, wholesome platforming adventure game with interesting “costume abilities” (like in Kid Chameleon!?), great graphics and tight gameplay? We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for this one.
Bravely Default 2
The anticipated sequel to an already good RPG game, this time on a more powerful console. Final Fantasy fans will want to check this one out, for sure.
Capcom Arcade Stadium
This will be a solid choice for all classic arcade fans. A fantastic selection of timeless classics that will entertain, challenge and delight us forever. The Switch is truly becoming the number one current console for classic arcade games.
Elden Ring
Loyal fans of Dark Souls and From Software were holding out for news on Elden Ring for the entire year, but little new has been revealed. The game is now expected to release in 2021.
Forza Motorsport
The Forza games have always had an incredible quality standard, and the new console generation is sure to push the graphics and immersion to a whole new level. Fantastic looking trailer and great news for all racing game fans.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection
A total surprise announcement (well, as far as I’m concerned, anyway). We all know and love the original Ghosts ‘n Goblins, so it will be exciting to see what’s new in this new title. Capcom might be on to something great here.
Guilty Gear -Strive-
Over the top arcade fighting game with fantastic characters, totally insane graphics and a hard rockin’ soundtrack. Guilty Gear games are always a pure joy to behold (and play) and this new game looks like it will knock it out of the park, completely.
Gran Turismo 7
Another mega-ton for the racing game fans out there. Admittedly we weren’t big fans of the online service centric Gran Turismo Sport, so here’s hoping that this “next gen iteration” will recapture our wildest car owning- and driving dreams.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink
An epic fantasy hack ‘n slash game in the incredibly imaginative world of Granblue Fantasy – What’s not to love here? The game looks downright gorgeous and filled to the brim with adventures, magic, monsters and wonders.
HITMAN 3
The HITMAN games have always delivered good content and we fully expect the new title in the series to continue that trend. The graphics look very detailed and atmospheric, so it will be a pleasure to explore these new scenarios.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis
Another surprise announcement that seems almost too good to be true. The long-running MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2 is about to be expanded in a big (and rather unique) way. New Genesis will practically be a whole new game, but it will be accessed from within the original game, using the same characters. A pretty interesting concept, to say the least.
Phasmophobia
This game is shaping up to become the ultimate ghost hunting simulator. It offers unforgettable moments in co-op with spooks and scares galore, without resorting to cheap jump-scares. It is a genuinely frightening experience that will scare the pants off of you, and we can’t wait to see the full release.
Prodeus
The crown jewel of the boomer-shooters, currently in early access and expected to release in 2021. Prodeus is an all-out assault on your senses with old-school gameplay, awe-inspiring (retro-ish) graphics and solid replay value, thanks to the integrated level editor. A great, explosive bundle of fun.
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil games may have lost the plot a little bit from time to time, but this new title in the series looks to reel it back in, like never before. Atmosphere looks to be the driving force here and it will be interesting to see where this story goes.
Returnal
One of the games that really stands out in the Playstation 5 crowd – an action packed, bullet hell-inspired third-person rogue-like shooter? I’m looking at the gameplay and I keep thinking if this is what a modern 3D version of Turrican would be like? It has a grappling hook too, just like in Turrican 3!
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World
A brand new Wonder Boy game, by its original creator(s). This looks like an HD remaster for modern consoles done right. It is especially cool to see a remaster of this particular game (Monster World IV), as it is rather rare here in Europe.
Wrath Aeon of Ruin
Another one in the boomer-shooter category, this is a hard-core demon infested nightmare that just has to be redeemed with a million shotgun blasts. The game is currently available in early access, but I’m holding out for the full release before playing.
YS IX: Monstrum Nox
A new game in the legendary YS series. This game has already been released in Japan, but we’re still waiting for it to drop here in Europe. This game appears to have everything we love in a J-RPG; great characters, interesting plot twists, loads of action and charming atmosphere.
